   Growing up people use to think all we ate was fish

Growing up as a little girl surrounded with a family of five siblings four brothers and one sister, me my mom and dad. My dad was a fishing man. At first it was fascinated waiting on my dad to come back home with Sometimes 2 buckets and 1 or two big pans with fishes. My dad would go fishing around 4am with his fishing partner every Saturday morning. 

I could remember on early Saturday morning me and my siblings will be watching the Saturday's favorite cartoon of all times until my dad will reach back, then me and my siblings would rush outside to help and see how much fish he caught. It was so exciting to see so many fishes he'd caught.

In the later years my dad would take my brothers to go fishing with him I guess to teach them a trade but my brothers never really like going fishing. I could remember when they would say they vomited because they were not accustomed to that kind of lifestyle. 

After a while people that was in our neighborhood and In school use to call my brothers fish as there nicknames. It was like a joke to them. They even use to call them the fish name in Spanish. 

I remembered one time because our neighborhood saw when my father used to come back home with fishes they use to ask if all we ate was fish? We said no my mom used to cook us all kinds of meat and seafoods but I never remembered her cooking shrimp. I guess it was to expensive or she probably never liked it. I never got the chance to ask why she never cooked us shrimp now my mom passed away. 

My family and I would have a feast eating lobster,crab and shellfish whenever our dad will caught them. I love eating them. I remembered when he told us he sold a restaurant a couple lobster for $100 a piece.

My favorite fish was old wife. I love it because it has less bones. Reason why I rather fish with less bones because you don't want to experience a bone stick in your throat. That's the worst feeling ever.People usually use bread to remove the bone from your throat.

My mom used to always wait on my dad so she would assist him in selling the fish and that was a side hustle for them. Believe it or not they got to save money from my dad's fishing and they build a house from scratch. I remembered the day when my dad and mom had a little argument about building a house, they bought a piece of land and ended up selling It because one wanted fence first the other wanted to build the house, but they ended up building house elsewhere years later and still up to this date no fence,Lol!

I remembered the day my father had a bucket of fish he called them small fish he told us we could do what we want with them, we have known a neighbor that love small fishes so we sold them for $5 a bag. We was so happy as kids. 

When I got a little older around 15 years old my dad started having me cleaning the fishes and cook them while he and my mom would go out to sell the remaining fishes. After a while I remembered telling my dad I can't clean the fishes because the bones will cut my fingers, from there he and my mom started taking over. That was my last time cleaning fishes. I still cook the fishes whether it's was boiled,fry or stew. 

I felt so special seeing my dad build his own boat and building his own fish pot, it took like three men just to take the boat into the sea. I remembered the day when my dad told me to clean under the steps and I mistakenly spilled over a bucket of fiberglass. I was  so clumsy then. I was so scared, When my dad returned and saw the spill, my dad went outside to look for a fish pot stick, I ran so fast upstairs in the bathroom, what was I even thinking though, Lol! We had one bathroom at that. I guess he saw I was so scared it seems like he forgotten all about what happened. I was so relieved. That fiberglass was to be used for his boat. He was a carpenter so he known how to build all kinds of wood work items.

I remembered one time my mom told me my dad was in a boat with his fishing partners and the boat turned over and as soon as the boat turned over a swarm of sharks surrounded him and all he could do was be still. Thank God my dad survived the ordeal.

Years later my dad gave up fishing he was reaching elderly stage. One thing he could have is a good conversations about fishing. That was his passion.

The funny thing I Cross path with a guy I met on Facebook come to find out he used to fish like my dad. He has a passion for fishing as well. We are now partners. My dad enjoy talking to him.
